When Healing Changes Everything: From Fighting to Freedom
Unbecoming What You Were Never Meant to Be and Embracing the Masterpiece God Created
"But now, O Lord, You are our Father; we are the clay, and You are our potter; we are all the work of Your hand." – Isaiah 64:8
"The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still." – Exodus 14:14
Dearest Reader,
Today, I offer you a tale woven in the threads of grace, a story not of striving but of surrender. Imagine this: the clay resting in the potter’s hand, still and pliable, as it becomes something beautiful under His touch. Yet, how often do we resist, burdened by the weight of layers not meant to adorn us? Layers of performance, people-pleasing, and the armor of survival.
When the hands of the Potter begin their holy work, these burdens are stripped away. Masks fall. Gloves are laid down. What emerges is the truest reflection of His creation—a child of God, radiant in grace, free from the need to pretend.
Let us begin this journey of healing, dear reader, where the masks crumble, and the freedom of being truly known takes flight.
The Search for Truth
Have you ever stood at the edge of a revelation so profound it shakes your world? Perhaps it was a hidden truth, a buried wound, or even a new understanding of God’s infinite love. These moments, raw and unfiltered, feel like stepping into a tempest. Yet in the storm, a whisper reaches us:
"I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty" (2 Corinthians 6:18).
And then, with a tender smile, He speaks words that settle the soul: “I will love you 'til the cows come home.”
Now, for those unacquainted with this delightful phrase, let me enlighten you. To say, “’til the cows come home,” is to speak of an enduring, unwavering commitment, drawn from the patient rhythm of pastoral life. Cows, known for their unhurried ways, always find their way home in time. And so it is with God’s love—steady, timeless, and unshaken by storms.
Even if you wander, even if the journey back feels slow, His love waits, constant and kind.
From Fighting to Freedom
Now, let us step into the ring—both literal and figurative. Recall the famed fighter, Mike Tyson, who said, “I don’t have it in my heart to fight anymore.” This was no mere retirement speech; it was the declaration of a man transformed. Tyson could no longer fight the way he used to because he was no longer the man he used to be.
How often does trauma forge our weapons? Michael Jackson danced through his pain with brilliance; Robin Williams masked his tears with laughter. Tyson fought with unmatched ferocity, but behind the gloves was a heart bruised by life’s battles. Their gifts, though extraordinary, became their escape.
Yet when healing begins, the need to fight, perform, or entertain fades. The gloves are laid down. The masks fall away. You stop battling for survival and start resting in grace.
When you heal:
You no longer resonate with the beast you once were.
You no longer fight to entertain from your pain.
You no longer view the world through the fractured lens of trauma.
Healing ushers in a new perspective. You rise above the cares of this world, not with fists clenched but with wings spread wide, like an eagle soaring high. And in that ascent, you discover the profound truth: The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still (Exodus 14:14).
Breaking Chains, Building Legacies
But what of those generational chains that bind so tightly? Many of you, dear reader, are the chosen ones in your family. The Lord has anointed you to dismantle the curses of old—addictions, lies, abuse, manipulation, and control.
You are forging a new path, one of holiness and righteousness. And here is the beauty of it: you don’t need to clean yourself up to come to Him. Come just as you are, and He will transform your heart. “I will love you 'til the cows come home,” He says—and beyond.
Unhelpful Core Beliefs
In the stillness of healing, we often confront old beliefs—shadows that linger, whispering lies about who we are.
“I am unlovable.”
Truth: “I have loved you with an everlasting love” (Jeremiah 31:3).
New Core Belief: I am deeply loved by God, not because of what I do, but because of who He is.
“I will never be enough.”
Truth: “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9).
New Core Belief: God’s grace is enough for me.
“I am alone.”
Truth: “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5).
New Core Belief: God is always with me.
“I am worthless.”
Truth: “You are precious and honored in My sight, and I love you” (Isaiah 43:4).
New Core Belief: I am valuable and precious in God’s eyes.
The Potter’s Hands
And so, the Potter continues His work. Like gold refined in fire, like clay shaped with care, you are being made new. He doesn’t erase your past; He redeems it. Each crack, each scar becomes a vessel for His glory, a jar of clay that holds His all-surpassing power (2 Corinthians 4:7).
Let the masks fall. Lay down the gloves. Rest in the knowledge that you are His masterpiece.

Let this melody minister to your heart. Its honest lyrics reflect the struggle of searching for meaning and finding rest in God’s love.
A Prayer for Healing
Father, thank You for taking my brokenness and shaping it into something beautiful. Thank You for teaching me to lay down the gloves, to stop striving, and to rest in Your strength. Break every chain of generational bondage and mold me into the vessel You’ve called me to be. In Jesus’ name, amen.
