Lessons from the Giraffe: Reaching Higher for the Kingdom
Seeking God’s Treasure, Practicing Patience, and Trusting His Presence.
Did you know giraffes are one of the most unique creatures God designed? With their long necks, they stand tall, reaching higher than most animals can. They remind us to stretch toward the things that truly matter, keeping our focus on God and His Kingdom. Let’s look at a few lessons from these incredible animals and how they point us back to Him.
Reaching for the Kingdom
A giraffe’s height allows it to see far and reach the best leaves high in the trees. It reminds us of Matthew 13:44, where Jesus tells us the Kingdom of Heaven is like a hidden treasure of immeasurable worth. Just like the giraffe stretches to the highest branches, we’re called to stretch beyond the distractions of this world to seek God’s Kingdom first.
“The Kingdom of Heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it, he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.” (Matthew 13:44)
What are the treasures in your life that keep you rooted in God’s promises? For me, it’s His Word, prayer, and the presence of the Holy Spirit guiding me each day. The love of my family, the laughter of my kids, and the beauty of His creation constantly remind me of His goodness. Worship keeps my heart aligned with His truth, and seeing His faithfulness in even the smallest details of life strengthens my trust in Him.
Remember, His Kingdom is the greatest treasure we’ll ever find. What are your treasures, sweet ones? 🌻
Practicing Patience and Grace
Giraffes are known for their calm and graceful demeanor, even when surrounded by predators. Proverbs 15:18 teaches us, “A wrathful man stirs up strife, but he who is slow to anger allays contention.” Just as the giraffe remains steady, God calls us to patience and self-control when faced with challenges or frustration.
When the world around you feels chaotic, let patience guide your heart. It’s a powerful tool that transforms conflict into peace and reminds us to reflect God’s grace.
Trusting God’s Presence
A giraffe’s height gives it perspective—it can see potential dangers from far away. But even when we can’t see what’s coming, God is always with us. Isaiah 43:2 is such a beautiful reminder of this truth:
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you.”
No matter what challenges you face, God is walking right beside you, keeping you safe and guiding your steps. He promises to never leave you, even when the waters rise or the fire feels too hot.
Finding Joy in Worship
Do you think giraffes ever stop to marvel at the sunrise from their towering view? I’d like to think they do! It reminds me of Paul and Silas in Acts 16:25, who, even in prison, chose to lift their voices in prayer and worship.
“At midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.”
Even in chains, they found joy in praising God. It shows us that no matter our circumstances, worship changes everything—it shifts our focus from our struggles to His glory and power.
Lessons from the Giraffe
So, my sweet girls, here’s what the giraffe teaches us:
Stretch higher for God’s Kingdom, because it’s the greatest treasure.
Walk with patience and grace, even when life feels messy.
Trust in God’s unwavering presence—He’s got you, always.
Find joy in worship, because praising God changes everything.
Every day, God is calling you to grow, to trust, and to walk with Him. Just like the giraffe rises above, you’re made to stand tall in His grace and reflect His light to the world.
With all my love,
Mom 🌻
